On Vernal Detonation, the Forbidden Song of Emergence, and the Dismissal of Trivia

Buds, sprouts, they will arrive,
break the thaw, perceive, spot, to join the awe,
blossoms, blooms, heave and drop,
snap, crack, explode and pop,
stroll and jaunt, foresee the run.
Milieus, destinies, turfs and ambits,
Orbits, the haunts, salutes, gestures,
nurture and foster, the sods and lawns,
thunders hug and cuddle, jolting to ensue,
be guarded, stirring sounds,
clouds to pass by, the sun to revive,
Is it the essence, or, forbidden song, melodies and tunes, jingles and carols,
the chants to conceal, will not remain sealed,
yes, sun to surmount, carving paths and wills,
the dawns to evoke, eagles embolden, canaries carry, the soothing songs.
Wake up to perceive, rattles to conceive,
ditties to presume, tinkles to posit, the pace to pursue,
moments do ponder, ambles to ramble,
murmurs do whisper, breeze to converge, the wafts to confirm.
Extend and flourish, cultivate and emerge, aptitudes and calls,
the surge and spread, undulation and rush,
the wave and comber, revere and respect,
venerate, admire, outings to conjure—
Squeeze and crush not to dare to adhere, invoke, or, beseech,
reserve, cache and hoard; those are the fallbacks, vanish, ooze and seep—
the dawn, merging light, ingenious inns,
cunning, shrewd sheens, reveal murky scenes.
Acuity, and depth enhance and augment,
discernment and perspicacity entice and honor,
invite and allure, the wind and breeze, reverberate and ring,
the hug and cuddle, embrace and hold, grip and grasp, the stage and show.
The journey, voyage, flight brave and bold—
feat and triumph, stretch searching souls,
catching, swaying, affecting and seizing,
surging charismas, the conveying charms.
Persona, guise and face, rarity entail, demand to prevail,
to simmer and sew, shiver and shudder,
yet, the fripperies and trivia, trifles and smidgeons,
dismiss and sack, disdain and despise—

Themes & Interpretations
Spring as Detonation
“Snap, crack, explode and pop” transforms the conventional image of gentle spring into violent emergence. The botanical process of budding is reimagined as explosion—seed casings as munitions, frozen bark as shattered ice. This isn’t destructive violence but generative force: the energy required to break through winter’s resistance. Spring doesn’t tiptoe; it detonates.
Thunder as Nurturing Embrace
“Thunders hug and cuddle, jolting to ensue” radically personifies the storm. Where conventional poetry treats thunder as threatening, this poem makes thunder affectionate. The storm embraces the earth into wakefulness, its violence redefined as love expressed through overwhelming force. The jolting that ensues is not damage but arousal—the earth shocked into life.
The Cunning Sheen
“Cunning, shrewd sheens, reveal murky scenes”—beauty can be a form of intelligence directed toward exposure. The sheen of spring is not naive ornamentation but cunning and shrewd. These are surfaces that think, appearances that strategize. And their strategy is revelation: they expose murkiness rather than hiding it. Beauty as forensic instrument.
The Dismissal of Trivia
“Fripperies and trivia, trifles and smidgeons, dismiss and sack, disdain and despise”—the poem’s ethical culmination. The trivial does not merely fall away during renewal; it must be actively dismissed, sacked, disdained, and despised. The soul that has experienced spring’s explosive arrival will not tolerate what is merely decorative or insignificant.
