Passages and routes,
the courses and voyages,
the air, auras, and zephyrs,
touch, trace, and drop.

Ups and downs, feats and fuzzes,
and deeds and fluffs,
the squalls, gusts, and draughts,
surf, surge, and swell.

Endure, sustain and stand,
oceans revive, ascertain and determine,
the waves to form, vivid, pure, and utter,
persist, pertain and alter.

Streams, floods and flows,
confiscate, detach, to surmount,
foams, fizzes, or froths,
seldomly to dare to keep on,
hanging on the turfs, or their thoughts.

Elevations, rises, and prompts,
spread their wings to survive,
the soars, circles, or their thoughts,
adorn, to gild hidden mounts.

Pedestals, posts and plinths,
Pillars, the masts and props,
ponder, pursue, or to tail,
to touch, to reach the fortune.

A reach to not plundered,
the path, the pace, to stir,
clouds, passage to mountains.
The gist, matter, and the whole.

Borrow, flame the candle,
lingered saga, legend of the whole,
remain salute and gesture,
segments, to merge in content.

The lights, the rays, and the beams,
moments reveal the postures,
it is you, grace, stature,
welcome, the hails and cheers.

And me, to,
insinuate, postulate, and propose,
spirals, twirls, and whirls,
while,
innate, inherent, the nurture.
Styles, slopes, and the slants,
behave to,
assert, posit, and tender.

Your shade, canopy, and awning,
the cover, hue, and the tint,
sedate and soothe, tranquilize stigmas,
not the actions, the healings, and the feelings.

Themes

The Three-Elemental Traverse

Air, water, earth/elevation as organizing principle across stanzas 1–6; the poem moves through the full natural order as testimony before arriving at the human encounter; the natural world is not backdrop but evidence.

Borrow, Flame the Candle

Transmission of illumination as more fundamental than generation; the Persian candle-lighting image — lighting one candle from another’s flame; the borrowed flame is the chapter’s evidence; we receive fire before we can offer it.

It Is You, Grace, Stature

The beloved revealed through qualities not features; light as the agent of revelation; grace and stature as relational properties that are themselves forms of the chapter’s evidence; the identification after the long traverse.

Seldomly to Dare

The poem’s most quietly powerful claim; “seldomly” — an archaic adverb whose very rarity performs the rarity of the daring it describes; those who hang on to turfs or thoughts are the uncommon ones who persist against the confiscating flood.

Healing Exceeds Action

“Not the actions, the healings, and the feelings” — the beloved’s shade works through being not doing; the distinction between therapeutic presence (ontological) and therapeutic action (operational); the canopy heals by being the canopy.

And Me, To

The speaker’s fragmentary self-introduction in stanza 10; broken syntax as ethical posture; insinuating and postulating rather than declaring; the intellectual humility of the one who approaches with spirals and whirls rather than straight lines.
